About

This blog is about current events and popular culture. It is also about me.

This blog is named after the idea that some things in life can be crystal clear while others are hazy and undefinable.  Due to that fact, the topics could end up seeming a little incongruous at times, but they will always remain true to the blog theme.

These posts will give you the opportunity to savor a slice of my life and/or what I think about it. The social commentary postings will be in a very similar format to the types of articles you would see in a magazine or a weekly publication. At the same time, the personal posts will be, well, personal so expect some informality.

(Note: With the exception of portions of articles containing MLA citations and attributions, all work on this blog is original work and cannot be copied without the express permission of the owner. The opinions blogged herein represent only those of José Feliciano and do not reflect those of his employer, previous employers, persons or companies mentioned herein, or anyone else.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~The Part About Me~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have studied history and psychology in undergrad and graduated with a B.S. ED in History. I am certified to teach Social Studies Secondary Education,  grades 7-12.  I also have an M.A. in American Studies. Currently, I am working as a teacher in a small town in CT as a substitute teacher.  I am particularly interested in identity studies, visual and material culture in the 20th and 21st centuries, and transnational studies.
I enjoy varying degrees of fluency in three other languages: Spanish, French, and Japanese. With a some difficulty, it is possible for me to read and understand Portuguese and Italian because of my knowledge of Spanish and French.
I’ve practiced some martial arts in the past and enjoy regular exercise. I like dancing during my spare time when I’m not busy working or just generally enjoying myself. Particularly, I focus on Latin (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, ChaChaCha, Tango), but also know some Hip-Hop and Break. I acted as a dance instructor assistant from 2007-2009, helping with beginner and intermediate salsa classes. I also taught creative writing and assisted in ballroom dance during summer 2008. If it were possible for me to be a professional traveler and dancer, I would probably go out and do it.  Of course, that means I would have to spend a whole lot more time being a dancer instead of just dancing as a hobby.
Currently, I am firmly planted in job limbo as I search for a full time teaching job. Time to navigate the great big world.
      Dear Ms. Kawaguchi,
      Thank you for the compliments and good wishes in your comment. Your visit to the blog is a compliment in and of itself. I am not yet on twitter, but when I do get an account eventually you can be sure that I will add you.
      I have been learning much in my program and hope to visit Japan again. In the meantime, I will keep working hard, updating this blog, and reading your blog and newspaper column.
    Love the explanation about your blog title – and it’s so true!!! Your life sounds very interesting and I’m anxious to keep up with your blog to read about it! Do you mind if I add you to my blogroll?
    Also a question — how did you add the “Follow Me on Twitter” button? I haven’t been able to find good instructions in WordPress’s help section.
    Have a super weekend Jose!
      Thanks again for reading.
      You can set up a twitter widget under appearances in your admin dashboard area. Also you can have the posts publish on twitter for you by going to “My Blogs” under your dashboard button and then checking Twitter under the publicize option.
      Finally, I’d be delighted to be on your blogroll and will add you to mine since it’ll further remind me to follow your blog.
      Thanks,
      Jose
